Welcome to Santa Barbara Ski & Sports Club

May 2009

Welcome to the Santa Barbara Ski and Sports Club. My name is Michael Mead, the 2009/2010 President, and I would like to tell you a little bit about our club. Although our primary purpose is to cater to the skiers and boarders of the area, we are so much more than just a ski club. The end of ski season doesn't mark the end our season. Our Summer Sports Director, Gary Longaberger, is busy planning golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, kayaking trips, bowling, hiking, biking, a trip to the Channel Islands, volleyball, a trip to a baseball game, and rollerblading just to name a few of the activities . Our Social Director, Lynn Bolton, is planning Happy Hours, a pool party, a dinner theater at Circle Bar B and a barbeque as well as Christmas party and a possible group to board the Trolley of Lights. Our Vice President, John Rousseau, is busy mapping out the events that will happen at our meetings during the season, such as a Cabaret night, a slide show of past trips, and presentations by health and nutrition professionals.

And even though ski season is months away, our trip captains are already busy on next season's trips. Our long trip captain, Tom Doolittle, has arranged for a weeklong trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in January, and another week long trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in February. These trips include airfare, lodging, and lift tickets so we can give our members the best possible value for their travel dollar. Our weekend trip captain, Ritva Hiltunen, is working on our 5 Mammoth trips-4 by bus and 1 is a carpool drive up trip. More information on all of these trips is available on our trip page.

Our meetings run from September to May, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, and our first meeting of the new season will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at the Chase Palm Park building. All of our meetings are open to the general public, and everybody is encouraged to come check us out. Membership is extremely affordable, and is a requirement to take advantage of our trips as well as some of our members only events. Check out our calendar pages here on our website for more information about all of our events. If you have any questions, or would like more information, go to the Contact Us page and click on the president@sbski.org to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you.
